Volunteers

CAN Tanzania offers regular volunteer opportunities located in the office and occasionally in the field work (according to current needs and dependent on volunteers experience).

Compared to internships, volunteer services are mostly longer. Individuals with interest in offering and getting diverse practical work experience are welcome. Your age, or current position does not matter – but a strong interest in climate change and environmental issues is prerequisite.

We offer an interesting work environment in our network. Given the already felt negative impacts of climate change in Africa and Tanzania in particular, volunteers can be directly involved and experience first-hand how we work on programs that advance our efforts to adapt to climatic impacts and to mitigate our future carbon emissions .

Interested individuals will need to have a work permission and a visa. CAN Tanzania will help with the application process.

If interested please contact CAN Tanzania:

Internship

Climate Action Network  (CAN) Tanzania is an NGO, which was founded in 2011 in Dar es Salaam. For CAN Tanzania and its members the most central task is to promote and manage projects with a focus on climate change mitigation, adaptation, technology transfer, REDD+ and forest management (e.g. reforestation), water resources, energy efficiency and renewable energy sources, and (smart) agriculture.

In all these areas an intern/volunteer can play an important role by supporting CAN Tanzania’s work and we welcome applicants from all over the world.

An internship provides the opportunity for motivated and skilled young people to get an insight in the activities of CAN Tanzania and to support us in our daily agenda. Sharing different experiences in climate change matters is a good opportunity to enrich your own knowledge and to see many events from different angles.

Typically, an internship lasts between two and six months (in special cases, more than six month can be possible).

What we offer

An interesting work experience, insights into our work with politicians and NGOs, and you can participate in conferences or meetings with other organizations.

Our internships are unpaid. But we try to subsidize them with things like visa, accommodation or local travel costs depending on funds availability.

What we expect

Working with CAN Tanzania  means to fight against the negative impacts of climate change. Therefore, we expect a strong interest in climate change and environmental matters. A related degree course is an advantage. Furthermore we welcome people who:

  • Are open-minded
  • Can communicate in written and spoken English
  • Have a knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word) and Skype
  • Have own laptop

What you will get out of the program

As mentioned before, an internship is a chance for you to get an insight in CAN Tanzania’s work and in our daily agenda. We always try to integrate our interns as much as possible. Small projects in which you work during your time are part of your internship. This can broaden your horizon and gives us the chance to profit from you and your ideas as well.

After your internship we will receive a certificate of your work and a recommendation letter if desired.

How to apply

If you are interested in CAN Tanzania  and an internship with us, then please send us an email with the following documents:

  • Motivation letter (including why you are interested in this internship, the time you are available, the duration and what your expectations are)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Two letters of reference (ex: from your professors)

Please send your mail to sixbert@cantz.org . We will contact you as soon as possible.
